The Ministry of Agriculture has been holding agricultural fairs in the country's regions since May 20. The ministry plans to hold fairs in six districts - Shamkir, Barda, Sheki, Ujar, Guba, and Masalli - until June 15. At the fairs, more than 20 suppliers, banks, insurance, and leasing companies demonstrate their products and services to farmers.

After the fair held in Shamkir on May 20-21, such a fair continued in Barda on May 23-24. At the fair, not only farmers living in Barda but also farmers from Tartar, Yevlakh, Agjabadi, Beylagan districts had the opportunity to get acquainted with suppliers of agricultural machinery and financial institutions, as well as the terms of sale of machinery.

“Farmers regularly ask us from which supplier they can buy suitable equipment. As a government agency, we consider it against the liberal market laws to direct a farmer or entrepreneur to any supplier. Therefore, we are confident that these fairs will create opportunities for farmers to find their best suppliers,” said Mirza Aliyev, chairman of the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency.

Azer Humbatov, director of Prior Leasing, the main sponsor of the fairs, believes that this series of events is an opportunity for the agricultural machinery suppliers and authorized credit organizations to introduce themselves to farmers.

“New changes in the rules of sale of agricultural machinery now allow each supplier to sell their products - machinery and livestock animals within a government subsidy. But, unfortunately, farmers do not know much about us, and the mass media is not enough to introduce ourselves to them. Face-to-face meetings are needed. As our branch network is not yet broad enough and small and medium farmers do not have access to the capital or other large cities, these kinds of fairs are an invaluable platform for suppliers and financial institutions. These kinds of fairs also help us learn about the wishes and expectations of farmers. At these fairs, we can determine what type of equipment the farmer needs the most. We can say without hesitation that we have gained real customers at these fairs,” said the company director, Azer Humbatov.

According to the new rules of sale of agricultural machinery, the government subsidy on agriculture machinery is 40% while subsidy on livestock animals is 60%. The remaining payment amount can be paid by the farmer within a 5 years interest-free loan with a 20% down payment.

The next fair will be held in Sheki on May 26-27.
